Cruz Calls Hearing on Future of Space Under New Administration

The Space, Science, And Competitiveness subcommittee has scheduled a hearing next Wednesday, titled “NASA at a Crossroads: Reasserting American Leadership in Space Exploration.”

The hearing will focus on the importance of ensuring consistency in policy to best leverage investments made in human space exploration. The hearing will also explore questions facing the agency related to the upcoming presidential transition.

Witnesses:

  • William H. Gerstenmaier, Associate Administrator for Human Exploration and Operations, NASA
  • Dr. Mary Lynne Dittmar, Executive Director, Coalition for Deep Space Exploration
  • Mike Gold, Vice President of Washington Operations, SSL
  • Mark Sirangelo, Vice President of Space Systems Group, Sierra Nevada Corporation

It’s vested interests all the way down in this hearing. The Coalition for Deep Space Exploration’s founding members are Aerojet Rocketdyne, Orbital ATK, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and Northrop Grumman. SSL received a NASA contract to study using one of its satellite busses as the basis for the Asteroid Redirect Robotic Mission.

Sounds a lot like a hearing that will consist of pleas to the two presumptive presidential nominees to avoid another Augustine Committee-like incident.

Maintain the status quo at all costs. Yuck.
